There's been many a times we watch a film and don't think much of it because of the poor script and poor acting. Other times the script maybe average, but it's the fine acting which lends to the overall liking and success of the film. This year we have had four particular male actors who have proven themselves on the silver screen and because of what they have delivered in their respective films, there characters are not forgotten quite easily! Check out below which four actors I'm talking about, and find out why they have proven themselves like no other...
1. Arjun Rampal
He entered the industry roughly ten years ago with minimal acting experience but an abundance of modeling experience. But he was, nevertheless, given the chance to prove himself in Bollywood when paired opposite some of the biggest female stars including Aishwarya Rai and Priyanka Chopra. Failures at the box office with films including Dil Ka Rishta, Yakeen and Vaada meant Arjun Rampal was recognised as a disappointing, expressionless actor.
However, Arjun did not give up so easily and believed he needed that one chance to prove himself and prove his versatility. Abhishek Kapoor's Rock On! saw him in the avatar of a quirky rock guitarist, then in Raajneeti in a political revengeful avatar and now in D-Day as one truly dignified patriotic hero. These three films have effectively redefined Arjun Rampal's career and the latter film in particular is the film in which I believe Rampal has given a par excellence performance. Everything from his expressions, dialogue delivery and persona undoubtedly contributed to D-Day's success and this is why I think Arjun Rampal has proven himself on the silver screen!
2. Sushant Singh Rajput
We all originally knew Sushant Singh Rajput as the TV actor in Pavitra Rishta, and my oh my...hasn't he grown! Who could have ever imagined that this young TV star will be all over the big screen with his debut in Abhishek Kapoor's Kai Po Che? His role in Pavitra Rishta did mean Sushant was pretty confined to playing the same role, which didn't give him a chance to express his versatility. In fact, audiences like myself didn't even know how versatile of an actor he was, until Bollywood beckoned!
Playing a significant role in Kai Po Che, Sushant was quickly recognised as an actor with a lot of spark and spunk. A born actor (some may say), he definitely gave it his everything in his first ever film. His role as the sporty Ishaan gave Sushant the opportunity to move away from being typecast as a soft and humble actor seen on TV and embrace brash dialogues, turbulent emotions and excitement. He gave his audiences just what they wanted, a new and transformed versatile Sushant who undeniably delivered just that and indeed proved himself on the silver screen. Watch out for him next in Maneesh Sharma's Shuddh Desi Romance.
3. Farhan Akhtar
Son to one of the most poetic lyricists of India- Javed Akhtar, Farhan Akhtar is a man with close ties to B-Town who has, nevertheless, made it to where he is all by himself! A young man who didn't quite know exactly what career he wanted to pursue has turned himself around to be established as one of the most versatile actors in B-Town today. A man with one head but many hats has gone from directing films such as Lakshya and the remake Don to producing films including Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd and acting in some of the best of the best films such as Zoya Akhtar's Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.
Acting, however, has to be the the area I think Farhan has accomplished a great deal from. Indeed, he came from a filmy background, but this is not so say he had it easy or acting came easy to him per se. With relevance to Farhan, audiences have had the opportunity to see his growth over the years and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag has to be one the most defining films of his acting career. He performed outstandingly that I don't think anyone else could have stepped into his shoes and played the role of Milka Singh with so much dedication, commitment and charisma. Farhan Akhtar has raised the bar for a lot of his other contemporaries and whilst he has his hands in many pies- he has proven himself as an actor on the silver screen!
4. Dhanush
Dhanush, a familiar known actor down South has been making waves in Bollywood. With his first Hindi release- acting in Aanand L Rai's Raanjhanaa, Dhanush was initially speculated to be unacceptable for the lead role. A Romeo attempting to woo his lover and make the charming Zoya forever his was the overall plot of the film, but with unconventional looks and 'unheroic' in the physical sense, it was believed Dhanush would not be able to do justice to the role.
However, Dhanush was not a man who was to give up so easily! Whilst others believed he should merely stick to acting in South films, Dhanush took up the challenge of being a part of a Hindi film and proving himself as a versatile actor. The language did not come easy to him, and there were times Dhanush questioned whether he was doing the right thing? But alas, with the release of the film- Dhanush proved himself wrong and audiences alike! He was without a doubt the perfect choice for the role and he became a popular star in B-Town over night. Dhanush, with experience in acting, nevertheless, came out of his comfort zone to experiment something new. But overcoming all the magnificent hurdles, Dhanush proved himself on the silver screen and broke all conventional barriers!
From watching actors like Arjun Rampal and Farhan Aktar who never quite found their feet initially in the Hindi fraternity to watching them today awe audiences with their inspirational acting finesse, inevitably proves that anything is possible when you work hard at it and don't give up!
From watching debut actors like Sushant Singh Rajput and Dhanush who came from relatively different backgrounds show their courage to enter the Hindi film industry with so much dignity and creativity proves that raw new talent has just as much as a chance at succeeding like any other established actor.
But one thing all four have in common...is that they have proven themselves as actors! Without any major surname attached to them or even without the conventional hero body/looks- they are talented actors of today- who deserve great recognition!
