We all know about him and we all most certainly love him. He is one of most talented actors of our time, extremely humble and somewhat of a perfectionist. He is none other than the superstar Aamir Khan! On his special birthday I take a look at his most spectacular of movies that set his acting skills apart like no other! It's true it's quite a task to choose only 5 particular movies when Aamir has a countless number of epic-films. But either way I've tried my very best to find those special five films that leave a tremendous mark on the history of Bollywood cinema...
1. Lagaan (2001)
The film marked the debut of Aamir Khan as a producer and it was his first production that gained phenomenal box office success! Lagaan remains one of the most unforgettable movies of Bollywood and will be forever associated with Aamir Khan and his fine acting skills. Playing the protagonist village role of Bhuvan, his character will do what it takes to resist against the British colonial rule and imposition of taxes. A film that touches on the history of India pre-independence and highlights the vigour and strength the villagers had is what makes this film one of the best Aamir Khan movies till date.
2. Rang de Basanti (2006)
Another unforgettable Aamir Khan movie has to be Rang de Basanti. Definitely not a conventional Bollywood flick, but it somehow has all the right ingredients to make it one of the most sought after movies of the fraternity. Aamir Khan was not the only key protagonist in this film and was in fact paired opposite 3 other actors, either way, however, Aamir proved himself as the a-lister as his performance was most outstanding and incredibly moving. Bravo!
3. Taare Zameen Par (2007)
It is indeed a highly sensitive and moving film that you can't help shed a tear or two. Yet because of the immense storyline and uniqueness of the film in which a young boy (Ishaan) plays the most prominent of roles it is a highly plausible watch! Taare Zameen Par saw Aamir Khan turn towards his directorial role and share a story of an autistic child who is just as ordinary and yet so special as any other child on earth. Such children tagged with a disability are increasingly left out or considered abnormal, but Aamir turns this stigma into a positive and exploits the ways in which autistic children too have so much potential and creativity to challenge these social norms.
4. 3 idiots (2009)
If you haven't had a chance to get your hands on watching this movie yet and you're looking for that extra bit of motivation and drive then this is the only Bollywood film that you will ever need! Aamir Khan yet again shows off his tremendous skills and proves through film just as much in reality that running after success is not by all means what makes you happy. Instead, follow your dreams and aspirations, do what makes you happy and thus excellence will surely follow! This for me is by far an Aamir Khan movie all the way and his choice of movies like 3 idiots proves he isn't running after those films that will bag acclaim without no real sense of direction or meaning!
5. Talaash (2012)
Last of all to make it to my big list of 5 is the most interesting of suspense movies- Talaash. Aamir Khan was back last year with his most awaited Reema Kagti film and it sure did not disappoint. It is certainly one other movie that leaves a lasting impression and in fact shows off Aamir Khan's versatility. He played one of the most difficult and disturbed roles with so much poise and ease. Alongside Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukherji, Talaash makes you want to believe in the unknown and truly lives up to the suspense genre, which was long-needed in Bollywood.
Whilst these are 5 of the most amazing Aamir Khan films this is not to say some of his love films from Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak to Fanaa are inferior to these. These 5, however, are those films that reveal Bollywood's potential to move away from rom-coms or conventional flicks and are the only films endorsed by Aamir Khan that make Bollywood increasingly versatile and spontaneous!
