We all know that the Anil Kapoor starrer Mr India directed by Shekhar Kapur was a magnificent hit back in the late 80s, but thanks to Sridevi's untimely romance in the movie and her respective role as the original Miss Hawa Hawaii is what grabbed the audiences attention even further! 2. Tu Na Ja Mere Baadshah - Khuda Gawah (1992)
Mukul S Anand's Khuda Gawah was established as one the best films of the early 90's and rightly so it had received great acclaim and accolades from FilmFare. Alongside the gripping storyline was the moving music from the film, which worked tremendously well to bind the film together. Both Amitabh Bachchan and Sridevi's onscreen chemistry in this movie is loved by audiences till date, and they worked well to bring out the best in each other in the classis Tu Na Ja Mere Baadshah. A song that simply tugs at your heart strings at makes you never want to spend a moment away from the one you love. Sridevi's facial emotions throughout this song resonate a sense of pain and struggle and serves a purpose in making this song the best it could have been!
3. Mere Haaton mein - Chandni (1989)
Who can possibly forget Sridevi in the song Mere Haathon Mein from the late Yash Chopra's Chandni?! I certainly haven't and I must confess this has to be one of my all time favourite Sridevi songs! Sridevi became one of the most sought after actresses of her time as a result of this film and many critics had gone onto praise her for her fine acting and dancing skills. Mere Haathon mein saw Sridevi in a traditional avatar and her jhatka's got the nations heart beating for her! This is one classic song which does not fail to get old, I'm sure you've heard it play at a wedding party too, and it's in that moment of time you want to hit the dance floor and shake a leg like our all time favourite heroine!
4. I Love You - Mr India (1987)
Another romantic number which never fails to go old is I Love You from Mr India. It's true to say that Mr India had quite a few songs which staged Sridevi at her all time best. However, in the song I Love You we had the chance to see the beauty sizzle onscreen in a romantic avatar opposite Anil Kapoor. Everything from her classic sari look as she sways and dances in the rain has gone down in history as one of the all time favourite romantic scenes of Bollywood! Sridevi truly made this song complete and bought all the much needed zest and life to the number with her hatke moves and unbeatable style. Everytime we think of this song, we think of dancing in the rain and that's all thanks to Sridevi!
5. Naino Mein Sapna - Himmatwala (1983)
We saw Sajid Khan's remake of the original Himmatwala, but sometimes it's just impossible to recreate the magic that was once created! K.Raghavendra Rao's Himmatwala is nevertheless a classic film of the early 80's and this was one of the first few times Sridevi unleashed her potential onscreen. Early on in her career she turned filmy songs into national superhits and Naino Mein Sapna is till today a Sridevi classic. This was the song that made Sridevi a star overnight as audiences loved watching her sizzle onscreen opposite Jeetendra! Dressed in a rather glamarous avatar on the beach with several colourful matka's surrounding her the song became a rage of the 80's. In fact, we fell in love with this song all over again last year when it appeared in the remake film. However, one could not but help comparing it with the original, because the key ingredient was missing- Sridevi!
Sridevi will always remain one of the most versatile, ravishing and creative actresses of the fraternity and on her 50th birthday it's important for us to commemorate the fact that she lives on as one of the finest Bollywood superstars!
