As most of you are aware, Aamir Khan hesitates to appearing in a numerous amount of films yearly, and therefore prefers to 'pick and choose' a film to star in based on a particular storyline. It's been three years or so since he last appeared in a film- 3 Idiots, and since then we have all been eagerly awaiting for his next release. News in Bollywood spread the words that Aamir Khan would appear in Reema Kagti's next, hence much excitement started brawling in B-Town and worldwide. Next thing you know, Talaash hit the big screens and many of us went to see if this was going to be another Aamir Khan epic, or not?
The storyline lies within the tagline...the answer lies within! So I don't want to give too much away, as the whole point of a suspense-thriller is to go and watch it, and unravel the mysteries for yourself! At a surface level, however, the film is tied around the three characters- Aamir, Rani and Kareena, and somehow or the other their individual lives come tied together into one magnificent story. Aamir Khan plays the role of a police inspector known as Suri, and he is concerned with unravelling the truth behind a death of a film star. Then we have Rani as Roshni, playing Suri's wife, a character also in search for something, whilst increasingly in search for her husbands love. Kareena Kapoor- a street-side prostitute, known as Rosie assists to uncover and develop the narrative further, whereby her charm and charisma contagiously work to open answers to the unknown.
Confused? So was I..in your first sitting of watching this film you are most likely going to be left confused up until the interval! Yet what you will begin to understand is that the whole point of the interval is to confuse you and enables you to question what lies ahead. It's mind boggling, gripping and intense storyline almost makes you feel like you the viewer are left searching for answers too, and its ongoing suspense is pivotal to keeping your attention engaged! What you have in the second half of the film is an unleash of mysteries beginning to uncover, the moment when you start to realise that the first half of the film was totally worth it!
In terms of performance, Aamir Khan yet again proved himself as a fine actor, and the way in which he enacted the role of an individual in search of a pain inflicting mystery with so much depth, disturbance and emotion was intensely moving and heart warming. He totally gave himself into the storyline that his performance was nothing less than superb! Rani playing the wife of Aamir, couldn't have been a better fit and choice for the film too, and her acting was also on par with Khan's. Despite saying very little dialogue in the film, she naturally expressed so much emotions and feelings into her character to the extent you could understand her individual pain without the need for playing with words. Kareena too, gave nothing less in her performance with the ability to play a woman stuck in a brothel of hell in search of heavenly bliss in a far way place of reclusive peace.
With Reema Kagti's directorial storyline, Farhan Akhtar's dialogue, Aamir Khan Productions and three phenomenal actors we have a film like no other- Talaash. With no song or dance around the trees or unrealistic, far fetched scenes- it's a highly-realistic film almost, anyone can watch. How far you can relate to the storyline, depends on how far you believe in something you may never know of, but ultimately it's a film which makes you want to value and cherish the most important people and times around you that you have. These moments which make today, for we don't know what lies ahead of us tomorrow. The foundations of love and the heartbreak of despair, an exhilarating, unconventional, realistically-moving film! Hats off to Reema Kagti and yet again..hats off to Aamir Khan for always waiting and choosing a film that will be an inevitable masterpiece!
Talaash rocks, go catch it now in a cinema near you!
