The Best...
As much as the worst films of Bollywood still made it to the big screens, we were lucky enough to experience some good quality cinema too! Indeed there were some films that were a general good watch, yet they didn't entice me towards watching them again! The best films from B-Town 2012 that have made it to my blog are the films I consider the best ones to watch again and again...1) Barfi (2012)
Barfi was by far one of the most phenomenal releases of 2012, which executed an abundance of love and emotions by a mute and deaf protagonist alongside an autistic heroine. The storyline wasn't begging sympathy for portraying characters with disabilities, however, worked well to showcase how such individuals have the ability and capacity to live and love like any other. From the incredible storyline, humorous comic scenes and fine acting skills by Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra, this film was an overall fabulous watch!
2. Gangs of Wasseypur (2012)
Gangs of Wasseypur has to be recognised as one of the finest crime films to have been released in India today. I have never really been a die hard fan of mafia depicted movies, yet somehow this film managed to change my opinion drastically. It's disgustingly brutal, bloody and violent throughout, but the unconventional storyline, and phenomenal performance by Manoj Bajpai in particular is what attracts you to watching how the story will unfold. I was undoubtedly kept entertained throughout!
3. Kahaani (2012)
If one actress should be given full credit for delivering the best of the best acting performances, then without a doubt in mind it should be given to Vidya Balan. Kahaani was one of the most mysterious yet moving films of the 2012, that depicted a pregnant woman's tale of achieving emancipation in the form of taking revenge. I absolutely loved the way in which this story unfolded, not the least bit predictable, and ever so entertaining! Totally worth the watch again!
4. Agneepath (2012)
January 2012 enabled Bollywood to kick-start the year with a bang, as the most anticipated film of 2012- Agneepath claimed box-office success nationally and internationally in due course. It was indeed a remake of Amitabh Bachchan starrer Agneepath 1990. However, the incredible changes to Kancha's character, new sub-plot elements, and par excellent music compositions made this film a fresh, vibrant and highly pleasurable watch. A film that encompasses everything from violence, avengence and romance, is the ultimate movie that made Hrithik Roshan worthy of recognition in cinema today. I would definitely watch this again!
5. Talaash (2012)
Aamir Khan has often been referred to as a 'pioneering institution', and he once again lives up to this notion for his incredibly laudable performance in Talaash. With the top-class acts, comes the gripping storyline that does everything possible to make one believe in the unseen. Probably the best three actors of Bollywood made Talaash one of the best films of 2012. Either way, I am in favour of Bollywood stepping away from mainstream romance and dance numbers, in order to present unorthodox suspense thrillers as the new way forward.
Subject to my own opinion of course, these are the official five films of 2012 I would take the time out to watch again. How often can that really be said about many film releases? Answer: It's pretty rare! So to have five quality films to hand tagged as 'the best of 2012' is quite an achievement for the fraternity. I do, however, recognise there were far more film disasters then successes, yet there were also times when we had great expectations from particular films that didn't really turn out to be what we expected.
