The next big release in tinsel town is Dabangg 2, with much attention bought to Kareena Kapoor's new item number- Fevicol Se. From talks on BBC Asian Network to the internet, everyone is tuned in to this one particular, yet very popular song. So without further a do, I decided to listen to a teaser of the track too, and find out exactly what all the fuss was really about!
There's no denying its a catchy tune, which incorporates flavour and music from the seventies and eighties. But what exactly is this song about? It just seems as if some pointless lyrics have been merged together to make an additional song for the film, which was not at all necessary. It's seriously a lyrically poor tongue and cheek type of musical, which only works to promote some sort of adhesive. That's right guys, Fevicol is a prominent glue-brand in India, which has somehow been weaved into a hindi song!! How utterly bizarre is that?
All I seem to be repeatedly hearing is 'stick down my photo to your heart with some Fevicol glue', (translation of the Hindi version) which not only sounds overly cheesy but hideously silly! With so much attention given to this one song, is it really the song which is a true hit or is it just doing well because of the high-fly Kareena Kapoor? I would never ever think a song which endorsed a glue-brand would be trending all over the net, which makes me question further: what exactly was the song-writer thinking? Was there some glue bottle before you, which attracted you to incorporate it into the song?
I understand we should take this song in a light-hearted manner as its not meant to play out anything too serious! But there's a difference between being funny, and then there's being cheesy. They could have still expressed the same message without the need of singing about some regional product! As much as Fevicol are most likely loving the attention they are getting right now, I need to point out that it sounds dreadful!
Music in all honesty should be lyrically salient in expressing what is going on in the film. By having a song which is constantly on the 'glue-flex' is quite a put off in general. On a positive note, without sounding terribly negative...Kareena Kapoor is looking incredibly beautiful, and knows how to sport the item song awesomely well in a very fashionable gagra-choli!
Thumbs up to Kareena, thumbs down to the song!!
