It's that time of the year that we look back and reflect on everything that's gone on around us! With the end of the 2012 near, I'm looking into which female celebrity sported the traditional look best in their film roles. Given how many films were actually released this year and still counting, its surprising to see that not many actresses played a role which enabled them to dress in traditional attire! But those who did, have made it here and its right here where I see who suited the eastern outfit the best!
Starting off the year with a bang we saw Agneepath breakthrough in January 2012, where Priyanka Chopra played a role of the girl next door called Kaali. Dressed in a red lengha sari, adorned in jewellery, Priyanka looked great in the traditional attire! Since being tagged as a 'desi girl' in Dostana, she continues to live up to this statipus and doesn't look uncomfortable playing the conservative type of role!
Later on in the year Priyanka came back with Teri Meri Kahaani in which one out of three love stories saw her dressed like a true Punjabi! Taken back to the 1920's, she was dressed in a phulkari shalwar kameez that also looked just as fabulous on her.
Sonakshi Sinha was another actress who sported the traditional avatar in a classic sari for Rowdy Rathore. However, Sinha is one particular actress who continually dresses in this traditional outfit in all her films she has been in so far. Having seen her dressed like this almost every time means I'm finding it increasingly difficult to compare her to anything else she has ever worn. As much as it suits her curvaceous body, the traditional Sonakshi look is being overly endorsed time and time again!
Parineeta Chopra (the new PC of Bollywood) was seen making her debut in Ishaqzaade, in which she proved herself as a phenomenal actress. In her first film she pulled off the traditional look wearing a shalwar kameez throughout, and with a figure similar to Rani Mukherji, Parineeti manages to look fabulous in a simple yet traditional look. Without being adorned in too much jewellery, she looked graceful and beautiful.
Sridevi made her comeback this year in English Vinglish, and playing the role of lady straight from the Hindustan arriving in America she is seen wearing floral printed and plain chiffon saris throughout. Sridevi across the 90's played a few roles in which she was dressed in western clothing, which in fact suited her just as well. Sridevi in my opinion is one actress who has the capacity to look good in both eastern and western clothing, and it was nice to see her make a comeback with the traditional look!
Last of all for 2012 we have Asin in Khiladi 786 playing a Marathi style diva! Not much can be said about her acting in this film, however, it's excitingly different to see Asin dressed in this particular attire! She looks so quirky and incredibly fresh in something so unusual to her, and I think it's about time we saw her dressed in the traditional sense. Love it!
Indeed we have seen Asin take up an unconventional look for her new film, and then we have seen Sonakshi dressed in nothing other than a sari! Either way, however, I honestly believe Priyanka remains the ultimate actress who tops off the traditional look the best for the year 2012! Whether she is seen playing a role from the golden era or from recent times, she is capable of fitting into the outfit perfectly every time. She simply fits into her role and costume so comfortably, that it almost makes the traditional sari or suit a fashionable hit all over again! Bringing back the phulkari embroidery after almost 30 years, and embracing the antique jewellery look is key to representing the diversity and history that remains significant to todays fashion!
